Fishing Guides

Capt. Kyle | Capt. Dan | Capt. Rick

Captain KyleHi I am Captain Kyle Messier. As a native to the area I have been extremely blessed to have the beautiful waters of the Crystal River, Ozello, and Homosassa all in my back yard. Living and growing up on the water over the years has provided me with many great memories and experiences which I enjoy sharing with my clients on a daily basis. My interesting experiences and vast knowledge of the area, local wildlife and the in’s and out’s of many of the areas secret creeks, coves and bayou’s make me one of the more dynamic fishing guides along the Nature Coast.

I love showing off the Nature coast, teaching men, women and children new fishing techniques and more or less making sure my clients enjoy their day on the “River.” And that is what you get every time you step foot in my customized Carolina Skiff, Action Craft (Tarpon Skiff), or Maverick HPX (Shallow Water Machine) a passionate captain whose love is the water and whose job is to cater to his clients.

Because of my vast experiences and knowledge of different areas, fish and their patterns I myself and all of my charters fish for over 20 different species of fish day in and day out. My specialties include (but are not limited to) Sight fishing for Redfish, Tarpon, and Tripletail, Fly Fishing for World Class Tarpon, Plugging for Grouper and Cobia, and just CATCHING!!! I am also an ORVIS endorsed fly fishing guide and I extremely enjoy teaching the art and skill of fly fishing to new and experienced fly fishermen/women.

Captain DanCaptain Dan Clymer was born and raised on the Crystal River. He has been fishing the Citrus County waters his entire life. At a young age he learned the vast bottom terrain these waters have to offer for fishing. Being an avid fisherman and having a passion for teaching others how to fish, he obtained his Captain license at the early age of eighteen. Captain Dan has worked several years in the marine industry including sales and actual field work testing boats. Over the years, the hours riding and working on a boat have accumulated over the thousands.

Some of Captain Dan’s fishing specialties include offshore grouper, flats, back country and fly fishing. While offshore, grouper, snapper, cobia, and king mackerel are the Captains target species. He is a true master of shallow water grouper fishing and on most occasions catches his grouper limit within site of land. This shallow water grouper fishing is a unique characteristic for the Homosassa and Crystal Rivers. While fishing inshore, Captain Dan focuses on redfish, trout, and snook. He enjoys taking his charters throughout the vast back country and flats of Citrus County. Fly fishing is also available for all the inshore species and some offshore species. Captain Dan is always up to the challenge of putting an angler to the ultimate test of catching a fish on the fly.

Some of Captain Dan’s credentials include several TV appearances such as Hooked on Fishing with Captain Bill Miller, Florida Sportsman TV, and Nature Coast Outdoors. He has also had several articles written about him and his fishing techniques of the Citrus County waters published in magazines such as Florida Sportsman, Saltwater Sportsman, Center Console Angler and Sport Fishing Magazine. Captain Dan’s most recent credential has expanded to include being endorsed by Orvis and federally permitted by NOAA.

Captain RickMy name is Rick Lefilies. As a young boy in Valdosta, Ga. most of my spare time was spent fishing in my backyard pond or with my Grandfather at his weekend retreat south of town near Lake Park.  He was a great guy, teaching me how to fresh water fish and instilling in me a high appreciation for wildlife and the great outdoors. Some years later I followed my dad and brothers into the automobile field but always managed to get to the many lakes back home to continue honing my fishing skills. Some twenty-five years slipped by and I had become a  weekend bass tournament angler, pursuing contests all over the Deep South.  In 1991 I took a couple of friends out fishing with me on the first trip in my new saltwater boat.  That trip changed my fishing life.  We caught redfish through the entire tide and we had double and triple hook-ups until we tired of catching them.  I was hooked on flats fishing and a few years later took up fly fishing as my primary way to ply the saltwater.  I soon developed a passion for catching Tarpon on fly and have dedicated the better part of fifteen years to educating myself as much as possible about this wonderful species. In the Spring of 2000 I opened Osprey Guide Service specializing in Giant Tarpon while also pursing all other gamefish.  I was very fortunate in the Summer of 2006 to be asked by Daryl and 'Jane Seaton to join their Orvis Endorsed team of guides based out of the Nature Coast Fly Shop. I currently reach the Gulf with my clients from my home on the beautiful Withalachoochee River located in Yankeetown, Fl. just few miles north of the shop.
